Kuai Man Suffers 3–2 Comeback Defeat to Miwa Harimoto, Misses Asian Championships Women’s Singles Final
China’s Kuai Man missed out on a place in the women’s singles final at the 2026 Asian Table Tennis Championships on October 25 after Japan’s Miwa Harimoto recovered from a two-game deficit to win their semifinal 3–2.
Kuai made a strong start and appeared to be in control after taking the first two games. She won the opener 11–7 with aggressive attacking play and consistent performance in rallies. The second game was much closer, but Kuai held her nerve in the crucial points to prevail 13–11 and establish a 2–0 lead.
Facing elimination, Harimoto responded with a series of adjustments. She increased the quality of her attacks and worked to control the pace of the rallies, winning the third game 11–5 to reduce the deficit. Harimoto maintained her momentum in the fourth, taking it 11–9 to level the match at two games apiece.
The deciding game produced a tense finish. Both players fought for every point as the pressure increased. Kuai found herself under pressure but battled back, saving four match points to level the score at 10–10. However, she was unable to complete the comeback of her own, as Harimoto won the next two points to take the game 12–10 and secure a 3–2 victory.
The result highlighted the competitive strength and mental resilience of both players. Kuai’s performance in the opening two games demonstrated her attacking ability and composure in important moments. However, she struggled to regain control after Harimoto changed the rhythm of the match. Harimoto, meanwhile, showed strong tactical adaptability and composure under pressure to complete the comeback.

Kuai’s defeat leaves Chen Yi as China’s remaining contender for the women’s singles title. In the other semifinal, Chen defeated compatriot Wang Yidi 3–0 to reach the final, where she will face Harimoto for the championship.
Although the loss will be disappointing for Kuai, the match offers valuable lessons for future competitions. Maintaining tactical discipline while leading, adapting quickly when an opponent changes strategy and making decisive choices in the closing stages will be important areas for further development.
Harimoto’s comeback secured her place in the final, while Kuai’s performance underlined the narrow margins that often separate victory from defeat at the highest level of international table tennis.
